Chinese president says black shadow threatens the world after decades of peace

Xi Jinping recalls that "thanks to the joint efforts of all countries, global peace reigned for more than half a century"

A black shadow threatens the world after more than half a century of peace. This was the warning left by Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday, without making any direct reference to Pyongyang's nuclear test this morning, the sixth in the country and the most powerful so far.

Xi Jinping spoke at the BRICS summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China South Africa) in Xiamen, China. In the 40-minute speech, the Chinese president said that "thanks to the joint efforts of all countries, global peace reigned for more than half a century." However, incessant conflicts in some parts of the world and hot spots are posing challenges.

The Chinese president named the threats of terrorism and cyber attacks - "among others" - but did not mention the tension in North Korea. He concluded by saying that the world's population wants peace.

In the official reaction to the nuclear test, the Chinese government condemned the nuclear test "vigorously" and challenged the Pyongyang regime to "stop aggravating the situation" with "gestures that do not serve its interests" .

On the other side of the Pacific, the US president responded on Twitter, delivering three messages on the subject, and in one of them stressed that the Pyongyang nuclear test is a threat and embarrassment for China, "who is trying to help but with little success ".
